Rayman Raving Rabbids is a portable version of the console game of the same name which was released for the Nintendo DS in 2007. Unlike both the console versions and the Game Boy Advance version, this game uses 3D graphics but plays as a sidescroller throughout the majority of the game. Like the console version there are several minigames which have to be completed to progress.

Plot[edit]

Similar to the console version, Rayman is relaxing in the forest, until the Rabbids, which are invading the planet, capture him and take him away to face the many challenges awaiting him in the Colosseum. Once there he is forced to play through their challenges to earn trophies, which will eventually let him face Rabble Droid. The game ends with Rayman celebrating his victory with the Rabbids.

Bad Qualities[edit]

  1. While itself it's not a bad game, it is a big downgrade from the GBA version since the platforming is less great and more stiffer, and also the gameplay is slighly more boring than the GBA and console versions.
  2. It also feel like a rehash of Rayman 2, but in 2D and much worse, mostly because it is less fun than that game, even if this one is still better than the actual Rayman 2 port of the DS.
  3. The levels are overly long and are very boring, not to mention that there's barely any challenges in all the levels, unlike the GBA port that was well made.
  4. The rabbids doesn't even had that much roles to the story, and it's even worse than in the GBA port because they barely appear here, and the bosses aren't even themself, which is dissapointing.
  5. Awful graphics that are some of the worst looking from the Rayman franchise, as they are extremely blurry and the models look somehow even worse than in Rayman DS, as well as having washed out colors, terrible art style for the second screen and the art style in-game isn't really bad, just it wasn't adapted to the DS capacity, as a result, the game look blurry as stated earlier.
  6. Compressed musics, much like in Rayman DS.
  7. The game is barely even challenging, as there's unlimited lives and the enemies aren't even that hard to kill, and their attacks are extremely easy to dodge, as a result it is one of the easiest Rayman game ever, along with Rayman 2 Forever.
  8. Rather short length, lasting only 4 hours, and it doesn't help that the game had little to no replay values.

Good Qualities[edit]

  1. The rabbids in the backgrounds can still be hilarous, even if they barely even appear in the game at all.
  2. It can still be fun to play at times, especially that the controls are tight and responsive and the 2D gameplay is mostly based on Rayman 2, which is an interesting but poorly executed idea.
  3. Tight controls.
  4. The soundtrack, despite being compressed, is still pretty good to listen to, since after all, most of it is taken from the console versions.

Reception[edit]

The DS version of Raving Rabbids received mixed reviews by critics and is one of the lowest rated Rayman game on Metacritic, with a score of 56/100, which is the lowest rated version of the game.
